Monthly Meeting - August 2005

  1. Minutes of previous meeting approved with the following amendments:
    • Item 9 – should read King St.Centennial Parkway (Hwy #20) to Queenston Rd (Hwy #8)
    • ACTION ITEM: Tarquin will continue to check for the planned existence of bike lanes for this route, and existence of preliminary drawings.
    • Item 10 – Cheri Weaver will check into bike rack designs for City of Guelph. No on e assigned to check with the City of Toronto
    • Item 11 – “James to Hughson: Udo…..” should read King William – James St to Hughson St: Udo…..

  1. Hatt Street on street parking with bike lanes.

Daryl field visited and conducted an inventory of existing Parking spots and possible locations for new parking spots.

 

 

Motion: A proposal of existing parking spaces and possible locations of new parking spaces with bike lanes on both sides of the street with a view to implementing the Stirling St. concept on Hatt St. will be forwarded to Councillor Sampson

  1. MTO plans for the Hwy 6 – York road interchange:

The York Rd bridge over Hwy #6 will have a 2m wide bike lane in each direction. The side roads leading to the bridge will have a 1.5m paved shoulder.

 

 

  1. Bike maps to be made available outside the City in 2006?

ACTION ITEM: Brian to check with City Tourism for 2 items

1.      Where does Hamilton Tourism send their pamphlets outside the City?

2.      Do any of the City’s brochures promote cycling or a link to our site.

3.      Brian to report his findings at the next meeting.

 

 

  1. Discussion on possible items or topics to be included on updated City Cycling web page:

Dramatic change coming shortly for the City’s website myhamilton.ca is going to be the new “portal”

ACTION ITEM: Can everyone take a quick look at the www.hamilton.ca/cycling website and see if there is anything that you would like transferred or built into this new website. Keep in mind that it must be commuter cycling / City related. There is a survey on the existing website that has only 13 respondents….let’s try and make it a few more. Take a look at other City web pages that have a Cycling component to them. If there is something that you think is a good idea for our site let Brian know.

 

  1. OTHER ITEMS OF BUSINESS      

 

Waterdown Master Transportation Plan

                  ACTION ITEM: Udo has drafted a letter and Daryl will submit this to the appropriate people as the Chair of the HCC.

 

            Brian to meet with Councillor McHattie to discuss possible tree removal or rerouting of the bike trail on the east side of the CP Bridge by the Rail Yard and Chedoke Golf Course

 

            Ottawa St bike racks have all been installed. Westdale project is under way. Locke St site meeting to discuss location of bike racks will take place on or about August 8th

                        ACTION ITEM: Brian to send out a general invitation to anyone on the Committee who would like to join this important excursion.

 

HCC is pleased with the letter Tarquin sent to J. Pidsadny regarding the position of catch basins on King St –Pottruff to Nash and Barton StCentennial Parkway to Lake Ave. N reconstruction projects.

 

It has been noticed that there are no Bike Maps on display in the Hamilton Tourism “Chuck Wagon” at Gore Park. Daryl has been in contact with Tourism and our Maps will now be displayed and distributed by the “Downtown Ambassadors” members

 

                        ACTION ITEM:  Daryl to get electronic copy of the very popular “8 Route Pamphlet” from the printing company and update this for the next meeting.

 

                        ACTION ITEM:  Brian to check how many “8 Route Pamphlet” we have left.  

 

                        ACTION ITEM:  Follow up with 2 previous Action Items: Bob and Brian

 to check with the Red Hill Creek expressway group for the paving of the trail under the viaduct and the Pritchard Rd crossing of the LINC to be a pedestrian crossing.

           

                        ACTION ITEM:  Bob Brown to present a brief financial report next meeting
