Monthly Meeting

Daryl brought the meeting to order and introduced Brian Applebee as the new staff representative on the committee. There were introductions of all present to Brian.
1) The minutes of the December meeting were presented by Udo, Al seconded that they be accepted as distributed. The motion was carried.
2) George reported that the bike racks were installed in the Concession Street & Dundas BIA’s. Dundas still has about six more to be installed. The other BIA’s have yet to report back as to their suggested locations.
3) Brian brought a proof printout of the new Bike Map. This was checked out by all present. No corrections were needed. Brian says the updated version to go to the printer and to be available for the Toronto International Bike Show.
4) Budget Items: a) Daryl motioned and Sarah seconded that we join the Desjardin Credit Union for our bank account. Motion Carried.
b) Motion carried to proceed with printing of route suggestion pamphlet to accompany the Bike Map. (Initial distribution to take place at Toronto International Bike Show. Motion carried.
5) McMaster new entrance in the planning stages. Brian and Daryl to keep committee posted as to on going developments.
6) The pedestrian crossing from McMaster, across Cootes Drive to Saunders Blvd. to eventually have a pedestrian activated signal installed. This signal to be timed with the Main St. & Cootes Drive signal to minimize the overall traffic disruptions for all.
7) Brian to investigate the costing of the Pritchard to Winterberry/Stonechurch bypass.
8) Work on King Street East in the Pottruff to Nash corridor to be completed this spring. Some sidewalks at this time create confusion, with recessed catch basins; hopefully this will be corrected by time the project is completed. ( Tarquin to follow-up)
9) The plans for the Lift Bridge bypass have been submitted to the appropriate government departments. This will proceed as soon as approvals are granted.
10) The consultant is working on the project proposal, to be submitted to Canadian Pacific, for the Rail Trail from Studholme to Stroud and connections to Brantford Rail Trail. Further updates to be forth coming. (Hart Soloman to submit to CP)
11) The sub-committee for the Toronto International Bike Show display to meet at Al’s. Tarquin offered to get the photos mounted on to foam-core for use in the display. All confirmed the staffing schedule.
12) There was a discussion about the representation on the committee of people from places such as Public Health, Transportation Planning (Vision 2020). (Bob & Udo to investigate)
13) The question of councilor communication was put forth. Brian assured us that all our minutes were distributed to them.
14) A consultant has been hired for $ 10,000 to investigate and design a solution for the King Street West (Maclin to Paradise) problem.
15) It was brought to the attention of the committee that the Transportation Policy Papers recommend the placement of bike racks on HSR buses.
16) The committee thanked George Brovac for all his hard work with the committee and wished him success in his new position.
17) Motion to adjourn by Tarquin.
